Santa Cruz Water Department Loch Lomond Riparian Restoration and Tree Mitigation
Location: Ben Lomond, CA
Client: City of Santa Cruz Water Department
Project Description
ECI was responsible for the design, implementation, and post-construction monitoring of the Loch Lomond Riparian Improvement Project. The ECI team participated in early planning, which included site-specific seed collection and the cultivation and installation of over 1,000 native plants, protected by fencing, on an approximately one-acre site.
Additionally, ECI collaborated with the City to design an irrigation system that features an automated watering system utilizing water sourced directly from the lake. Throughout the project, ECI worked closely with the City to ensure the mitigation and monitoring plan met all agency requirements, ultimately leading to the successful completion of the project on time and within budget.
This initiative provides direct benefits to both the community and the environment, allowing the City to enhance its water infrastructure while complying with the mandates set forth by the Regional Water Quality Control Board, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW), and the Army Corps of Engineers. The enhancements are accessible to the public at the Loch Lomond Recreation Area, significantly increasing habitat value in a location cherished by many residents of Santa Cruz County.
