Community Awareness; Monitoring and Data Collection; Public Outreach; Removal of Invasive Species
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The Navy had two primary objectives for this project: remove invasive exotic plant species within the Dunes Research Area and conduct a threatened plant study for Monterey gilia (Gilia tenuiflora ssp. arenaria) and Monterey spineflower (Chorizanthe pungens var. pungens), The study specifically addressed how habitat could be made more conducive to seed germination by addition of sand and /or removal of perennial plants. The project included the construction of endangered species protection and revegetation plantings to increase rare plant populations.
